I am a painter who makes large abstract paintings with the flat surface of the canvas filled with vibrant color, light, texture, and form. The shapes and forms that fill the surface of my paintings have grown out of a determination to develop a personal mark, one that contains my stamp, my signature.

Drawing is a foundational part of my working method. I love the opportunity it offers to explore the many nuances of line and the physicality of drawing and painting. I make marks with whatever is in my hand, personal marks that are often repeated, building a space that becomes evocative, a loose grid or lattice work filled with unexpected structures.

I may start with an idea for a painting that I’ve been carrying around in my head but find, instead, that what emerges on the canvas is more urgent than my predetermined idea. Living in a rural place so close to nature, but far from the urban areas where I’ve spent most of my life, has forced me to grapple with the plethora of choices an artist has in finding their voice.
